The project is an extension and conversion of an existing building. The architectural motif is a contemporary interpretation of the old barn buildings and fishermen’s houses found in the village.
CREATING AN OPEN AND INVITING STRUCTURE
The characteristic gable roof of the existing building is extended towards the west. New facade and roofing materials, inspired by the local building culture of the barns and fishermen’s houses, have given the building a much more open and inviting expression. New canopies and bay windows for lounging are cut into the building mass, bringing light into the existing building while creating intimate nooks and corners for both outdoor and indoor relaxation.
INTEGRATED SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS
The surroundings are incorporated into all living spaces, and daylight use is optimized. The goal is to create a flexible, varied everyday life for children and adults, expressed through contrasts such as outside/inside, up/down, light/shadow, high/low, large/small, and quiet/active. The project includes several integrated sustainable solutions, with energy optimization in the form of extra insulation, daylight optimization, user control of lighting, user involvement, and children’s co-ownership.
