The project includes the reconstruction of Jyllinge Sports Centre after a major fire in 2014, where 70% of the sports complex was lost.
INSPIRED BY EEL ROSES AND FISH BOXES
In the project, the functions have been redistributed within the existing footprint, and a complete renovation has been carried out, creating a much more outward-facing, inviting, and multifunctional building that serves as a framework for the city’s sports and cultural life.
The building’s expression, inspired by eel roses and fish boxes, is a tribute to the city’s community that, in the 1970s, created one of the country’s largest city festivals – the Eel Festivals – whose profits financed the first, now burned-down, sports centre constructions in the city. The building contains two new arenas, one of which has stands for 400 spectators.
CREATING A NEW CULTURAL AND SPORTS CITY
In addition, meeting facilities, conference rooms, a café, kitchen, fitness area, changing rooms, and administration have been included in the new buildings. CORNELIUS VÖGE has also been responsible for preparing a comprehensive plan that allows for the integration of a future cultural school, library, and a new multi-hall, creating a new cohesive cultural and sports city with an associated activity park, city square, and new residential areas.
