The proposal ‘Sådan ligger Landet’ gently protects Dragør’s coast by integrating security into the existing landscape and cultural environment. It strengthens the city’s identity through improved levees and elevated wharfs, which serve as new meeting places. The solution is flexible and maintains a strong sense of openness towards the sea.
INTEGRATED PROTECTION AND AUTHENTICITY
Our proposal for how to protect Dragør and its 13 km coastline, “Sådan Ligger Landet”, builds upon the unique cultural heritage of Dragør. It aims not only to protect the citizens of Dragør, but also to strengthen and communicate the distinct identity, history and authenticity of Dragør – its flat landscape, its preservation-worthy harbor and town, and its ever-present closeness to the sea and horizon.
The proposal seeks to enhance security, with the main concept being a gentle integration of protective measures into the existing landscape and the cultural heritage of Dragør’s harbor and town.
CREATING INFORMAL MEETING PLACES
The idea is to reinforce and develop elements that are already present and characteristic of the area. In the landscape, this means improving the dikes; at the harbor, it involves raising the height of bulwarks and slipways – not solely as discreet protection against the sea, but also to create new informal meeting places for both citizens and visitors.
The proposal includes a plan for gradually increasing the level of protection and adapting to future changes – without losing Dragør’s direct access to the coastal landscape. This flexible approach builds on experience from our previous coastal protection project for Roskilde Municipality.
