TRANSFORMATION – REUSE AND NEW USE

The reuse of buildings and materials, as well as the efficient use of local resources, are not merely stylistic choices for us; they are an integral part of our approach to architecture. We believe that we borrow our buildings from past users and pass them on to future ones. Therefore, we aim to create robust buildings that can withstand the passage of time and create value for future generations.

Transformation refers to the larger or smaller alteration, conversion or extension of an existing building, often for a new purpose or for the same purpose, but with significant functional, architectural or interior changes. A transformation represents solutions, design and architectural choices that are rooted in the building’s architecture, history and key preservation values, based on prior analysis and assessment of these values.

With a focus on the assessment of buildings, their materials and traces of use and wear, we always define a transformation approach, which serves as a basis for interpreting the layers of stories within buildings into new interventions and new uses. Architecture thereby becomes the enhanced value that strengthens any project – whether an existing building, an urban district or a landscape. It increases lifespan and overall value by adding new layers to the story.
