RENOVATION – USING CULTURAL AND TECHNICAL ASSESMENTS

Renovation involves the renewal or replacement of existing building components in a building, e.g. windows, roofs, floors, ceilings or stairs. In the context of renovation, there are no described or formulated methods, principles or theories, but we nevertheless consider renovation to be an architectural discipline that should be based on a cultural and technical assessment of the existing building components intended for replacement. This applies to form, expression, detailing, material quality, architectural coherence and, not least, climate impact in both construction and operation. Every building component is always part of a larger narrative of building value and architecture, and incorrect solutions can have significant consequences for both.
