RESTORATION, PRESERVATION AND SUBTLE ADDITIONS
In our work with listed and heritage buildings and restoration, we follow classical restoration methods with a thorough mapping of existing qualities and values as well as historical traces of earlier use and lived life. These may be both physical and narrative traces – visible or documented.
Each project begins with value assessment, archival studies, preliminary investigations and, where relevant, archaeological surveys, aligned with the owners’ wishes for preservation or change. On this basis, we formulate an overall restoration approach that supports a coherent narrative faithful to the building’s authenticity and identity. It describes the method and practice for the proposed solutions, including whether they are restorative, preservative or additive interventions. Each intervention carries its own possibilities and requires knowledge, expertise and documentation as well as a particular eye for what is essential.
